Lafarge to increase cement production in Russia by 12%

In 2010 the French cement producer Lafarge is planning to increase its production in Russia by 12% year on year to 2.7 million tonnes. In 2009 the company’s production in the country fell by 28.5% year on year to 2.4 million tonnes.
Lafarge operates two factories in Russia – Voskresenskcement (acquired in 1996) and Uralcement (acquired in 2003). A new factory in the Kaluga Province with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of cement is being built, at a cost of up to €500m.
